Richard Chacon
Director of Supplier Diversity and Community Development, MUFG Union Bank
Richard Chacon is the Director of Supplier Diversity and Community Development for MUFG Union Bank, N.A. As Director of Supplier Diversity, he is responsible for providing diverse business enterprises with the opportunity to participate in the Bank’s procurement of products and services. In addition, as Director of Community Development, he is responsible for meeting the needs of our nonprofit community.
Mr. Chacon joined Union Bank in 1998 and has been the driving force behind an increase in diverse business supplier spend from $26 million in 1998 to $250 million in 2020. Prior to his current position, Mr. Chacon served 10 years in various personnel-related positions in the U.S. Army, having served two tours in Korea and in Vietnam. In 1970 he joined Pacific Bell in various personnel and supplies distribution departments. There, he established the supplier diversity program for Pacific Bell’s Southern California Region; he then managed the Pacific Bell Services for the Disabled program. He also held various management positions with Levi Strauss & Co., LB Credit Corporation and Wells Fargo Bank.
Richard is an active member within his community and with numerous business development organizations throughout the nation. He is a member of the Financial Services Roundtable for Supplier Diversity, a Board member of the Northwest Mountain Minority Supplier Development Council, and of the Western Regional Minority Supplier Development Council, and Board Chair of the Council for Supplier Diversity in San Diego. Richard is also a corporate advisor to the Veterans in Business Network, and the California State Commanders Veterans Council.
